The core of Bio-based Economy To the members of the Korean Society for Enzyme Engineering (KSEE)

Greetings!

It has been almost six years since the Korean Society for Enzyme Engineering (KSEE) was founded in August 2015. We have reached where we are now thanks to the enthusiasm of the members and directors. In particular, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the former president Hak-Sung Kim who has led the society since its foundation, and will continue to do my best to contribute to the KSEE society.

Enzymes are the most dynamic molecules responsible for all chemical reactions in the living organisms, and are the core of biotechnology such as new concept therapy, carbon neutrality, and eco-friendly process technology. From this perspective, the KSEE has become a venue for in-depth discussion and information exchange in order to understand the core functions and characteristics of enzymes and utilize them in enzyme-based industrial applications.

At the symposium held twice a year, representative scientists on important topics lectured on research trends and key issues of enzymology, and had unlimited discussions with the attendants about future development. This was a thirst that was hardly to satisfy in existing academic circles, and became the basis for the successful establishment of the KSEE.

For the upcoming years, the KSEE will be led lively and interactively based on the confidence that we have built up over the years. To this end, an administrative leader group is formed separately from the board of directors to encourage the activities of young leaders. Moreover, we plan to diversify our website so that members can promote their performance, find jobs, and exchange opinions.

Lastly, we politely ask for your active participation and support so that the KSEE can play a bigger role in the era of the bio-economy through online or small group activities despite the contraction due to COVID19.

Thank you.

President Seung-Goo Lee
